MORDEN CORN & APPLE FESTIVAL UNVEILS ENTERTAINMENT & BASKET SALES
The Festival will host two concerts on their Facebook page, and are selling Corn & Apple baskets to support the Festival.
MORDEN, MB, August 16 — The Corn & Apple Festival is thrilled to announce two concerts, streaming free on their Facebook page, and the sale of Corn & Apple baskets.
Concerts:
“We are excited to be able to provide two concerts free of charge for fans of the Festival to stream from their homes”, said Festival executive director Tim Hodge.
The first concert will air on the Festival’s Facebook page on Saturday, August 21 at 7:00pm and feature Field Guide:
“Winnipeg is an interesting place. It’s cold, it’s cheap, and it’s responsible for more than it’s fair share of great bands and fine musicians. It’s a special thing when such a small, isolated place is chock-full of phenomenal, genre spanning music. The next generation is blissfully spared the ill-advised constructs that a normal music scene can beat into you. Such is the case for Field Guide who spent his youth on the road with his high school best friends playing to no one and getting good at music. He paid his bills by being a guitar player for hire all the while learning how to craft songs that land just like journal entries. In essence, because they are.
Field Guide found an audience with his EP You Were, which was a breakthrough success on both streaming and radio. After abruptly moving to a new city right before a global pandemic, Field Guide holed up in his Toronto apartment and did nothing but play guitar and write songs for months. In June 2020 he packed up a rental van and drove back to the prairies to record 15 songs with his best friends. Those songs are being released in 2021.”
The second concert will air on the Festival’s Facebook page on Friday, August 27 at 7:00pm and feature The Dirty Catfish Brass Band:
“Dirty Catfish Brass Band’s aim is to inspire, create and instigate – but, mostly, they just want you on your feet. Undeniably tight, yet reckless as hell, Dirty Catfish Brass Band deals in powerful phrasing and performances drenched with rhythm. Invoking the sounds of brass bands and funk ensembles, the collective dares to reimagine the streets of a prairie city as one that is hot, alive, and brimming with soul. Based in Winnipeg, MB, the crew strives to surprise, challenge, tickle and pay homage to the New Orleans tradition by giving it a new audience in an unsuspecting locale. From street corners to festival
stages, and community celebrations to sporting events, DCBB use the power of music to bring joy to their audience. Get ready to move.”
“We were disappointed we couldn’t host live events this year,” said Hodge, “but we are glad we can still provide entertainment. Looking ahead to next year, we are already gearing up for a massive Corn & Apple Festival in 2022.”
Baskets:
The Festival is looking at new ways to meet public demand and the provide an opportunity for fans of the Festival to provide their support though the sale of Corn & Apple baskets. “One of the things we were told that people missed most last year was the delicious Morden sweet corn”, said Hodge. “We wanted to be able to provide a taste of our corn this summer, and we’ve partnered with local Berwalde Juice Co this year to provide apple cider.” Each baskets will contain one dozen cobs of Morden sweet corn, 2 liters of local apple cider, and a collection of merchandise featuring the Festival’s new branding. “These baskets provide a fantastic opportunity for us to get our new branding out into the public. Without being able to host a Festival to show it off, we are happy that people will still have a way to bring the new look into their homes.”
“This is a great way for the public to support us now that it’s been two years since we could host a Festival. We’re hoping the community really embraces the baskets”. The baskets are currently available for pre-sale on the Festival’s website (cornandapple.com/baskets) for a price of $50. Baskets will be available for pickup on Saturday, August 28th from noon – 5:00pm at 379 Stephen street in Morden. “In order to keep the corn and cider as fresh as possible, we’re having it delivered the same day as the basket pickup- just like we do at the Festival each year,” said Hodge. More information is available on the Festival’s website.
The Morden Corn & Festival is Manitoba’s largest street festival, welcoming approximately 80,000 annual visitors to beautiful downtown Morden during the last full weekend of August.
